Independent Learn Task:
The Hidden Midden

  1. What was the name of the main person in the text?
The main character in the text was Rangipai. ✔️
2.  What could he see after the storms? After the storm Rangipai could see black ash,old fishbones, and shells.
3. What does his Granny belong to?  Rangipai granny belongs to the local coast care group.✔️

4. What did the group decid to do to protext the sand dunes? The Local coast care group planted native grasses to help protect the sand dunes and the midden.✔️


5. What is a midden?Midden is a place where articles things from the past are buried.✔️

6. Why do archaeologists study middens? Archaeologists study middens to find out what kind of food people eat in the past and what tools they use. ✔️


7. What are middens protected under?
The midden are  protected by  the Historic Places Act.

8. What did the group have to do first and why?
The  Local coast group had to build a fence to stop the grasses being trampled on.✔️
9.  Who helped the main person in the text plant pingao seedlings? The person helped Rangipai plant the pingao was his cousin Keely.✔️

10.  Why is the pingao important? The  pingao will help to stop  the sand dunes washing away and protect the midden that is hidden underneath them.✔️
